HAND MADE SMALL BATCH
GREAT BRITISH ALES AND CIDERS
A fusion of old and new ideas, our core range is made with only British hops and malt giving some classic British ale flavours, whilst our Wanderlust range is all about adventurous world flavours.
We also make cider from local apples both in classic styles and fruity flavours.
We try to run our brewery as environmentally friendly as possible. We recycle water to wash our casks, our waste malt goes as feed to local farms, our hops are composted to help feed our home grown hops and we only use green energy to power our brewkit.
Brewers of lovely Beer!
Our story begins on a golf course! With three friends who had all taken early retirement, soon realised whiling away their hours on the green just wasn’t quite enough for them. Ken, Bob and Nick who were all keen home brewers and had already perfected their homebrew recipes, thought it was about time to scale it up and fill their days with their love of beer. In 2006 a premises was found on the edge of Nottingham city centre and Magpie Brewery was born. With the addition of Kens son Gavin in 2010, production has steadily increased, and in 2017 our modest 6 brewery barrel plant was upgraded, so we can now produce up to 20 barrels per brew.
The heart and soul of our beer comes from our love of the craft and passion for using the finest British ingredients, no short cuts, no compromise.
Over the last few years we have added 3 pubs to our estate, so you will always be able to find our great ales in our Nottingham pubs along with brews from our local and not so local brewing friends.
In 2019 we have opened the crafty warehouse bottle shop and tap next door to the brewhouse, allowing customers to come over and buy direct from the brewery or have a pint or two in our tap room. Check out our social media and website for updates on opening times including pre match drinks (ticket only on match days).
It’s not easy being green!
Recycling our waste packaging is easy, reducing our carbon footprint is a bit more difficult.
We are environmentally conscious both as a business and personally, which is hard for a brewery with our significant environmental impacts being water and electricity usage and waste during production. To reduce our impact all of our power is supplied by Good Energy using 100% renewable electricity from the great British sunshine, wind and rain!
A bi product of brewing is waste water, used during production for cleaning and sterilising. To help reduce wastage, we harness the waste water from cleaning to re-use in jet washing our casks.
We haven’t quite managed to convert our delivery vans to run on waste veg oil, or switch to electric power but we do keep our deliveries local and control our routes to reduce our carbon footprint.
We send all our spent grain to local farm for animal feed and we compost our used hops, to help grow some of our very own organic British hops.
